We have all heard the saying pay it forward but what about passion forward? An expression for describing the result of being inspired by someone who loves what they do.
Passion forward is what I think of when I watch the Trend Vision Awards.

The Wella Professionals TrendVision Awards is one of the most prestigious events in the hair industry. It allows hairdressers the opportunity to think outside the box by offering creative freedom and a platform to showcase their work to the industry and their peers.
TrendVision brings the craft of hairdressing to life in a completely different way. I think when people hear the words “hair competition” they automatically think Hair Wars. But this competition is not like that at all. Think of it like fashion – haute couture versus ready to wear. Hairdressers are artists just like fashion designers. For the most part ready to wear is what they do everyday – this competition is an outlet to allow them to use artistic freedom and create amazing walking art with cut and color.
Last year we interviewed Hannah Currie, a Hairdresser/Make-up Artist from Texture Hair Salon in Ottawa. When I asked her about her experience at the 2013 North American Trend Vision Awards, she had this to say:
“The experience was absolutely amazing. It really opened my eyes as to what the possibilities are in this line of work and it most certainly fueled my fire!”
When you watch the stylists come out with their models you can see the pride and passion in their eyes. This is not just a career for them it’s a lifestyle and a passion.
I’ve written several posts on this competition and watched it live online and every year the atmosphere is electric. I think that anyone watching it would be inspired by the hairdressers enthusiasm and fiery passion.
In order for professions to stand the test of time, they need to evolve with societal, economic, cultural and technological changes. But, they also need to offer creative outlets to inspire and motivate people to be better and like Hannah said “fuel (their) fire.”
Passion forward – it will be everywhere you look at the North American TrendVision Awards this weekend in Vegas.
Good luck to all the competitors – we’ll be watching!
