Glossy and gorgeous.
It’s that time of the year again. Soon salons will be having hair model open calls for TrendVision.
The Wella Professionals TrendVision Awards is one of the most prestigious events in the hair industry. It allows Hairdressers the opportunity to think outside the box by offering creative freedom and a platform to showcase their work to the industry.
TrendVision brings the craft of hairdressing to the next level.
I think when people hear the words “hair competition” they automatically think Hair Wars. But this competition is not like that at all.
Think of it like fashion – haute couture versus ready-to-wear. Hairdressers are artists just like fashion designers. For the most part ready-to-wear is what they do everyday – this competition allow the artistic freedom to create amazing hair art with cut, color and style.
I have some of my favorite looks, over the years, hanging up on the walls in my powder room.
Try new things.
This is a chance for you to live outside the box – have a unique experience and see first hand the passion of the beauty industry.
Limitations with cut and color impede the creative process.
Many women have an emotional attachment to their hair – so if you are not adventurous this is not for you.
No-shows are sacrilege.
Don’t be afraid to ask the Stylist questions, look at their portfolio/vision board. If you have an inkling of doubt – be honest and open. Stylists need someone who is on-board 100%.
Don’t get intimidated by the word ‘model.’
I have been covering this event on my blog for years – from what I have seen – here are things that Stylists are looking for:
Confidence is key.
Even though the hair is the main focus – a models ability to work the camera is an important part of the final look.
Remember, if you make it to the North American or International competition – you’ll have to strut the runway!
A unique look.
It’s not all about traditional beauty. Often hair models will have a unique, edgy or distinguishing feature that makes them stand out.
Hair length, thickness, texture and condition are all important.
Aside from being part of an amazing experience, you get to work with talented Stylists, Make-up Artists and Photographers.
Every salon is different, but most will offer product incentives and hair services for a certain period of time following the competition, in order to restore or change your hair.
If you are an aspiring hair model, this is a great opportunity to build your portfolio.
