This is an unprecedented time in our history.
Everyone, in one way or another, are being affected by the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
This has become a worldwide pandemic. People are staying home and businesses are temporarily closing – life essentially is on pause.
Over these last few weeks watching the news from Italy and now here – I can’t help but think about the profound impact this is having on millions of people.
It kind of makes you feel helpless. You want to do something – but what?
I was watching a press conference with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo this afternoon and I think he said it best:
Thank your everyday heroes:
- Healthcare Workers
- Police Offices and Firefighters
- Public Transit Workers
- Childcare Workers
But I wanted to go beyond saying thank you, so after giving it some thought, this is what I did.
From the very beginning Texture Hair Salon has always been supportive of my blog, always willing and eager to collaborate on posts. Not only do they keep Ottawa beautiful (from the inside and out), they are also a sustainable salon and make time to give back to our community in different ways.
A hairdresser’s life revolves around hair. Our brains constantly switch from math to science and from social to psychology and back to our clients. We work hard physically, emotionally and mentally – every day with few breaks and definitely no silence. Here is the Truth About What it Means to Be a Hairdresser | Laura Husband
My blog focuses heavily on the beauty industry – more specifically the hair industry. They, like many other service-based professions, have been hit hard by this closure, so I wanted to show my support for them as well.
So to show my gratitude to our everyday heroes and support an industry I respect and love – I have donated three gift cards to Texture Hair Salon clients who are helping fight the spread of coronavirus on the front lines, helping keeping us all safe.
It’s all small gesture but I am hoping this will encourage others to do the same.
You can purchase Texture Hair Salon and Texture Hair Boutique gift cards by visiting the salon website here. Or if you prefer, call or email the salon and someone will get back to you – this is how I purchased mine.
