Flawless, radiant skin is a sign of true beauty.

I think it really comes down to a combination of three things: genetics, healthy lifestyle and skincare. And, since it’s the first thing people see – taking care of it – should be seen as the ultimate investment.

10 steps to beautiful skin

I have come across a lot of articles lately on something called the Korean Skincare Routine. I did a bit of research and here is what I found out.

It’s more of a marketing ploy then actual fact. Meticulous skincare is part of the Korean culture, however it’s a not a set-in-stone process.

If you Google Korean Skincare Routine it can involve anywhere from 10-17 steps. Basically it comes down to a few key things: cleansing, exfoliating, treating, moisturizing and applying SPF throughout the day.

Here are two rules of thumb from Alicia Yoon, co-founder of Peach and Lily, interview in Fashionista.com.

  • The more watery it is, the earlier it goes on.
  • You should wait 30 seconds to one minute in between each step to let the product absorb.

Step 1: Pre Cleanse – Gently massage your skin using an oil based cleanser to remove makeup – it will help eliminate impurities without drying out your skin.

Step 2: Use a water-based cleanser to remove dirt etc. at the end of the day. Massage the product on your skin in a circular motion using your fingers.

Step 3: Every few weeks exfoliate your skin – pay special attention to the t-zone.

Step 4: Using a toner will help sooth your skin and remove any built-up residue from your cleansers. It will also help prep your skin for the next step.

Step 5: Essence – from what I understand this is a nourishing liquid that helps with cell turnover. To apply, spritz on and then gently tap skin to help with the absorption.

Step 6: Ampoule – a serum usually thicker in consistency that helps target a number of skin issues. Less is more when it comes to these types of products. It is supposed to brighten the skin as well.

Step 7: Sheet masks can be done twice a week to help your skin absorb nutrients and moisture.

Step 8: Gently tap eye cream around the eye area – never tug or pull the skin.

Step 9: Using gentle strokes – apply moisturizer to face and neck – gently massaging until product penetrates skin.

Step 10: Apply night cream in the same manner.

This is where I got confused.

I know the big differences between day and night cream is texture but night creams also have anti-aging and moisturizing ingredients that help keep your face hydrated throughout the night.

From the articles I read – these creams are made to be layered. So, I am assuming that is why there is a moisturizer and night cream. But it makes more sense that the moisturizer is for your day routine and night cream is for evening. That being said – nothing about this is carved in stone.

I think it’s an excellent guide to use for developing a skincare regime.

The biggest challenge I think, is finding products for each of these steps. I am always looking for recommendations or new lines to try.

I recently chatted with Shawna from Oxygen Medi Spa about the Skin Fusion 02 line – which is exclusive to the spa – it has a number of products including: cleansers, toner, crèmes and serum.

We have something for everyone – and will happily help clients find the right product to meet their skincare needs.

What are some of your favorite products in the line?

Hmmmm – this is a hard one. I would have to say our travel kits are my favorite. You can try 7-8 products from our line – and see which ones you like best.

I also love, love, love the 02 Restoring Crème – it smells like blueberries. The prescriptive eye treatment is amazing too!
