the-hair-stylist-bernardi-beauty-blog

My mother is a hairstylist, and after all these years, she still has a passion for her craft. Her profession isn’t just about hair; it’s a lifestyle.

This blog is an opportunity for me to share what I love, pay tribute to the beauty industry, and tell the stories of its talented artists and people who inspire me.

I want people to read my posts and feel as though they’ve just finished a great short story, while also learning something about someone they might not have encountered otherwise.

We live in a vast world filled with amazing stories to tell; this blog shares just a few of them.

NATASHA

How would you describe yourself? Honest, easy going and independent. I don’t trust people easily but when I do I am very loyal.

Healthy habits: I love circuit training, running and kick boxing.

Any regrets? No.  I think everything happens for a reason – the difficult times I’ve been through have made me a stronger person.

Best feature: A guy once told me I had bedroom eyes. But I think I’d have to say my full lips – I get them from my Nonna – on my Mother’s side. Yes – I am very blessed. They are 100% real – no fillers.

What I watch:  I love documentaries. Some of my favorites – Welcome to Death Row, Muhammad Ali: Made in Miami, Hairdressers Ruled, The September Issue, The Story of Food Waste, The True Cost, Iris and The First Monday in May. I also love watching cooking shows – Master Chef Australia, Top Chef, Jamie Oliver (Italy Series) and Two Greedy Chefs.

Music: I love good music – it’s not about  a particular style. It’s more about that feeling I get when I hear a song I love. It’s one of the best feelings in the world. My mother’s father and brothers were all musicians, and my father’s brother was an opera singer in Italy. I don’t play an instrument or sing (except in the car or shower) but I always need to have music playing in the background.

How would you describe your style? I have a more classic or casual street style. Don’t get me wrong though – I do love a sexy black dress with a pair of heels and a simple clutch too.

Favorite accessory: Beanie and trucker cap; love layering necklaces.

Favorite shoes: My ADIDAS sneakers. I also love my Steve Madden black pointed heels – they go with everything.

One thing everyone all your friends know about you – that others would find surprising.

I hate taking pictures. I don’t really own any designer clothing, shoes or handbags. Also, some readers assume that because I focus a lot on the hair industry, that I’m a hairdresser. I’m not – I just grew up around it. I love it – it’s in my blood.

Favorite food: My mother’s pizza. She also makes this grilled eggplant with plum tomato olive salsa that is so good. Aside from Italian I like sushi, Greek, Cuban and Middle Eastern food. I am also obsessed with fish tacos.

Favorite color: I’m getting better at expanding my color choices – but I would say half my closet is black.

Favorite sports: F1 – I started watching it with my Dad in the 90s. Football – If I had a dollar every time someone told me I know a lot about football for a girl – I’d be rich. Soccer – I was born a Juventus fan.

Dining out: I love places with great atmosphere and food. I refuse to eat anywhere that resembles a barn.

I don’t tend to stray too far away from where I live – some of my favorite locals spots: Kuidaore, Citizen, Brassica, Farinella, Retro Gusto and Bambu. Bottega Nicastro and Farmer’s Pick are my favorite Italian grocers.

Favorite clothing store: Aritzia

Favorite drink: Gin + Tonic and Prosecco

Favorite perfume:  Chance by Chanel

How do you like to pamper yourself? My favorite thing in the world is getting my hair blown out. It’s the best thing ever. I also love hotel pillows – it’s like sleeping on a cloud. Getting a facial.

What does the phrase beauty from the inside out mean to you?

Beauty equals confidence.

I have gotten more confident over the past 5-6 years. I really don’t care what people think. I’ve never been one to follow the crowd.

When people look back at your life, how do you want to be remembered?

I am going to steal a quote from Frank Sinatra:

I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends, fine family – and I don’t think I could ask for anything more than that.

LOVE YOURSELF FIRST. OTHERS WILL FOLLOW.
