Loukia is a familiar face from her appearances on CTV and Ottawa’s social scene. She is also a professional and lifestyle blogger and is active in the community. This year her involvement on the Boobyball committee has special meaning.

The Boobyball was launched in 2002. Over the past 16 years, this event has raised over $4 million dollars for Rethink Breast Cancer. This year the theme is “Get Physical” a retro romp through your teenage dreams.

How did you get involved with Boobyball?

I was asked to promote Boobyball several years ago though social media and on my blog, and last year, I joined the Boobyball committee in Ottawa. It was a very rewarding experience as I learned more about Rethink Pink and how it helps support young women with breast cancer. My friends attended Boobyball last year and we had a blast, all in support of this worthwhile organization.

This year, it has touched close to home for me, because my little sister–she’s 34, and a mom of three children–was diagnosed with breast cancer. She’s gone through countless doctors appointments, months of chemo, surgery, and radiation. Through it all, she’s remained upbeat, positive, and happy–totally herself. Her strength is amazing. The situation has definitely put things in perspective for us, and it was nice to see Rethink Pink information and resources at the breast clinic. It’s nice to know there is an organization that helps young women affected by this disease. It’s more common than I thought.

When I saw the theme this year – I immediately thought of the Katy Perry video Teenage Dream. Tell us a little bit about it.

Let’s Get Physical! That’s the theme this year. Think 80’s and 90’s; we’re kicking it old school, so we are having fun with it! I am still trying to decide what to wear–total 80’s rocker chic, leg warmers and scrunchie, or tacky prom dress? Crimped hair, bright colours, cropped tops… endless possibilities. The music will be totally awesome, too–and the decor.

What were some of your favourite trends from the ‘80s and ‘90s?

Cropped tops, big hair, and leg warmers. The make-up was a little crazy, thoug kI loved Alyssa Milano on Who’s The Boss back in the day! For the 90’s, I loved Cher from Clueless.

Do you have any fashion, hair or makeup tips for those attending the event?

Have fun with it–anything goes. Go with a favourite TV or movie character from the 80’s or 90’s. (Think Saved By The Bell, Breakfast Club, Britney Spears). Pinterest has tons of great ideas, too. And if you want a costume, go early, because Boobyball is on October 27th, just a couple days before Halloween.

DONATE: 100% of your donations are used to support and empower young people concerned about and affected by breast cancer.

If people can’t attend the event this year how can they make a donation?

If they can’t attend the hottest party in Ottawa, they can always donate to Rethink Pink online.
